Ooh, how exciting, your hen party is going CURLING! Could this mean a glam salon session involving skills with hair appliances? Learning how to pull your lip up to indicate gross distaste? Or did you immediately think of that high profile, elegant (?), bizarre Olympic ice sport?
If you did, we don’t know whether to congratulate you, or tell you that you need help. But actually, you are spot on for what is, in fact, a brilliantly funny, surprisingly skillful and certainly original hen party activity that we guarantee you’ll never forget.
Big in America and Canada, our locations are those perennial eastern European cold spots, Bratislava, Riga and Prague. What’s curling all about? Well, it’s related to bowls, boules and shuffleboard. You slip and slide your way on to the ice rink, or ‘curling track’ and the idea is to glide your special ‘stone’ as close to a target as possible. Sounds simple doesn’t it, but there’s no room to be a girly curler, you’re not allowed to touch it once you’ve propelled it initially, and you steer and control its speed by vigorously ‘sweeping’ the stone’s path with a ‘broom’.
It sounds bonkers now doesn’t it, yet yes, this really is an official sport? Your professional instructors will guide you on the techniques and technicalities, but something tells us you’re going to get well and truly ‘stoned’.
We think you’ll love this team game that really is like nothing else you’ve done before…but sorry, not a GHD in sight.
