Hotels are all very well, but someone might end up down the corridor, on a different floor and you miss out on an extra element of fun when the group is a little split up. If you really want to keep your gang together and have a totally bonding trip away, then an apartment or cottage rental is a very cool way to do it.
It means you're all in one place, which is handy for getting there, but you also have some added independence, as they come with kitchenettes and lounge areas, as well as all your basics like bedrooms, bathrooms and TVs.
They are also a great way to keep the cost of your trip down, being centrally located and maintaining a good standard of accommodation. In some European destinations they will have on-site facilities like a bar, restaurant, swimming pool, shops and 24hr reception.
Good space, good prices and good fun = good choice.
