This year one million Britons will travel aboard for a stag do or hen party, roughly 1 in 6 will have no travel insurance and risk coming home out of pocket!
Phil Lord from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “Stag and hen dos are all about having a great time but the celebrations can come to an abrupt end if things go wrong. Cultural differences mean some people will take offence to risqué fancy dress costumes and rowdy behaviour – so to avoid a hostile reception from the locals or even spending the weekend in jail, make sure you research your destination, and know your limits.”
Make sure you purchase comprehensive travel insurance to cover costs if things go wrong or you lose your passport, mobile or luggage.
Take enough money for the trips and make sure you have access to emergency funds.
Pack your European Health Insurance Card for free or reduced fee emergency care, you will still need full travel insurance so don’t think this card covers for all eventualities it doesn’t.
Read up on your destination so you know what you can do in the country you are visiting without offending or breaking the law.
No one wants to be left at the departure gate waving friends off so check your passport is in date and has at least 6 months to run on it.
Stag dos and hen parties abroad can avoid pre wedding hell if they follow these few simple tips given by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

You have decided the venue and what stag activities to book but unsure on where to stay.
Lets face it, finding a stag friendly hotel is a bit of a challenge, the only hotels you can find are not even suitable for your mother in law (thanks Cheggars for that one).
Well, if you couldn’t find a reason why to book your stag weekend through DesignaVenture or a similar stag booking agency this is sure to be the one.
“We have hundreds of great stag friendly hotels available throughout the UK and Europe, ranging from budget no frills hotels to 4 even 5 star hotels”, a spokesman from DesignaVenture advised me.
“We also advise all our clients at time of booking where they are staying unlike some other stag booking agencies who do not name your hotel until 2 weeks before you go”, she added.
If you are worried about where to stay my stag do advice to you would be to book at least your hotel through a booking agency as they have great contacts with big branded hotels such as Marriotts and Novotel so you can expect a certain standard.
